The Board of Governors of the European Society for Artificial Organs was pleased to present the certificate of the yESAO Exchange Program to Hala Alkhoury, Biomedical Materials Group, "Martin-Luther university Halle-Wittenberg" (Germany) and to Eva Espinosa-Cano, Biomaterial Group, "Institute of Polymer Science and Technology", Madrid (Spain) for their collaboration about “Immobilization strategies with glycosaminoglycans- polymeric drug conjugate on biomaterials for anti-inflammatory purposes, 2018”
The work was presented during the yESAO meeting at the 12th of September 2018 in Madrid/ Spain.

Mrs. M.Sc. Pegah Esmaeilzadeh attended the 22nd International Conference and Expo on Nanoscience and Molecular Nanotechnology and received a "Young Researcher Forum" (YRF) award. This award is a recognition for the quality, novelty and significance of the research results shown among all seven accepted and presented papers within the forum.

Pharmazeutin Hala Al-Khoury erhielt den Preis für die beste Diplomarbeit 2015, verliehen durch das Serumwerk Bernburg AG. Das Thema ihrer Diplomarbeit lautete „Anti-inflammatory studies of glycosaminoglycans“. Die Aufgabe bestand darin, Substanzen wie Heparin, Hyaluronsäure und andere auf ihre Fähigkeit zur Verringerung von Entzündungen nach der Implantation von Materialien, wie z.B. Kathetern oder Biosensoren, in einem in-vitro-Modell nachzuweisen. Dazu musste Frau Al-Khoury neben der Herstellung von Oberflächenbeschichtungen und deren Charakterisierung mit physikalischen Methoden ein Zellkulturmodell mit humanen Makrophagen aufbauen, um die entzündungshemmenden Eigenschaften von Heparin und Hyaluronsäure nachzuweisen. Sie konnte dabei zeigen, dass insbesondere Heparin, das im klinischen Alltag zur Hemmung der Blutgerinnung eingesetzt wird, auch über ausgezeichnete entzündungshemmende Eigenschaften verfügt, was das Einsatzspektrum von Heparin in der Medizin erheblich erweitern könnte. Die Diplomarbeit wurde mit dem Prädikat „sehr gut“ bewertet und verteidigt. Ergebnisse ihrer Diplomarbeit sind auch Bestandteil einer Veröffentlichung im „International Journal of Artificial Organs“ mit ihr als Koautorin.
